El Hierro

You most likely know something about the Canary Islands but perhaps you don't know much about El Hierro. That's a good start because most other people don't either.

Without taking your breath away, our landscapes are often stunning. We have capricious badlands of cristalized lava, evergreen woods and pine forests, stark reminders of the force of nature in the form of hundreds of extinct volcanic cones, green valleys, huge amphitheatres a thousand metres high, sandy slopes, and blue skies ...

Geographically we’re next door to Africa and you might think it could be as hot as the Sahara but the sea all around us guarantees we have one of the world’s most perfect climates for people to live in. And on the island we have everything we need: excellent telecommunications, good roads, a surprisingly good health service …

But we’re also fortunate in what we don’t have. Here there are no football hooligans, no noisy discotheques, no crowded beaches, no high-rise hotels, no polluting industry, no stress ...

You can’t deny it, we are about as far away as you can get but we’re technically still in Europe. Being out here doesn’t mean we’re stuck here. We have several daily flights to Tenerife and from there … to everywhere. Fast ferries too!

Everyone has a right to “get away from it all”. That’s what El Hierro is for. And if it’s a charming, quiet beauty that just makes you feel good, what more do you want? This is it!
