The Island of El Hierro

The island of El Hierro is unique and very special. For the last five hundred years the Canary Islands have been a stepping stone between Europe, America and Africa; providers to Europe of sugar, wine and fruit, and more recently their beaches and resorts have become the destinations of a massive tourist industry. El Hierro, the westernmost island of the archipelago, has always been on the periphery and ignored by history. That is its charm. A quiet, far from ostentatious beauty that just makes you feel good. Here there are no football hooligans, no noisy discotheques, no crowded beaches, no high-rise hotels, no polluting industry, no stress. Everyone has a right to “get away from it all”. That’s what El Hierro is for.
